Photo Exhibition: « Iconic Lion »

23 May to 31 December

  • To mark the bicentenary of the Lion’s Mound, the « Iconic Lion » exhibition arrives at the Waterloo Battlefield Estate with a unique and entirely free photographic experience. From May 23 to December 31, 2026, discover a series of striking photographs by professional photographers Samuel Bouchoms and Jean-François Schmitz, exploring the Lion’s Mound through four powerful themes combining heritage, history and emotion.

Presented at the Mémorial 1815, this first part of the exhibition offers a fresh artistic perspective on this emblematic site. But the experience continues outdoors across several iconic locations of the battlefield: the Vertes Bornes path leading to the Farm of Mont-Saint-Jean, the Last Headquarters of Napoleon, the Wellington Museum garden and the Waterloo Tourist Office.

You will also discover photographs selected as part of a major photo contest organised on social media, where residents, visitors and history enthusiasts shared their own vision of the Lion’s Mound. A unique and collective way to celebrate 200 years of one of Waterloo’s most iconic landmarks.
