Exhibition « These Trees, Witnesses of Our History »

1 July to 27 September

  • The Wellington Museum presents its new temporary exhibition, « These Trees, Witnesses of Our History », running from July 1 to September 27, 2026. Created in collaboration with the Walloon Heritage Agency (AWaP), this unique exhibition explores the essential yet often overlooked role of trees and forest environments throughout history.

Through an immersive and well documented journey, visitors will discover how forests shaped traditions, conflicts and human societies, from Antiquity to 1830, with a special focus on the Sonian Forest. A refuge for draft resisters, a strategic resource during wartime and a symbol of freedom, the forest reveals its many historical and cultural dimensions.

The exhibition also highlights the connection between the former Bodenghien inn, now the Wellington Museum, and its forest surroundings, offering a unique perspective on one of Waterloo’s emblematic landmarks.

Looking to explore even further? Guided tours of the exhibition are organised on selected Sundays during the summer holidays, offering visitors the chance to dive deeper into the fascinating connections between trees, heritage and history alongside a guide.
