  • On 18 June 1815, Papelotte was one of the three strongpoints defending Wellington’s left flank (along with Hougoumont and Haie Sainte).

It was defended by Nassauvians (German soldiers from the Duchy of Nassau, integrated into the Dutch army), and briefly occupied by Durutte’s French troops.

Papelotte also played a role in covering the arrival of von Zieten’s Prussian forces in the early evening, an arrival decisive to Napoleon’s defeat.

The house was partly burnt during the fighting. It was not reconstructed fully until 1857 58, when the octagonal tower above the porch was added.
