The Napoleon’s Last HQ

A museum for all, 4 km from the Lion’s Mound

  • This former farmhouse, transformed into a museum, highlights the events of that famous night through testimonials and anecdotes from civilian and military life.

It was also here that Napoleon developed his strategy and plans for the battle. In an authentic setting, the museum houses a multitude of objects, mainly from the French army, including a copy of the Emperor’s cot.

The museum’s scenography has been specially designed and created to welcome a maximum number of visitors: solo visitors, international visitors, children and their families, PRMs, the visually impaired, the deaf and hearing-impaired.

The interior tour is complemented by the discovery of elements in the orchard and courtyard. These include watercolours depicting the life of a soldier in a camp.

Visitors can also extend their visit with a walk or bike ride through Genappe’s countryside. Outdoor picnic tables are available.

June 17, 1815. It’s almost nighttime, and the rain is falling. Napoleon’s troops are exhausted. They sense the presence of enemy forces. The Emperor orders a halt, and his aides-de-camp spot an unoccupied house. It is the Ferme du Caillou. It will to become Napoleon’s last headquarters.
