Located in the heart of Genappe, this inn witnessed several key episodes: in 1792 it was visited by the future Louis XVIII; during the 1815 campaign it hosted Wellington and Prince Jérôme Bonaparte.
On 20 June 1815 (two days after the Battle of Waterloo), General Duhesme died here of his wounds. It was also here that Marshal Blücher gathered Napoleon’s personal items (his sword, telescope, decorations, and famed hat) before departing victorious in the imperial Berline.
A place imbued with the final days of that drama, making of Genappe a key point in the retreat of Napoleon’s army and the triumph of the Allies.
