Mini-Exhibition « Mado Harmant »
-

For the 5th edition of its mini-exhibitions, Waterloo Tourism highlights Belgian sculptor Mado Harmant. Seven artworks are on display, each revealing a delicate universe where paper becomes a living material.
Born in Liège in 1966, Mado Harmant has developed a distinctive artistic approach centred on paper sculpture. Her characters are created using fine strips of paper, often recycled, carefully applied onto a wire structure. The result is detailed, airy and sometimes appears to defy gravity.
An acrylic patina enhances each piece with a subtle trompe-l’oeil bronze effect. The sculptures, often placed on spheres symbolising the earth, roundness and softness, interact with light and cast carefully calculated shadows.
Her poetic world echoes inspirations such as Le Petit Prince, Giacometti and Roald Dahl, inviting both children and adults to dream.
