Located opposite the Gordon Monument, the Hanover Monument commemorates the 4,000 soldiers from the Principality of Hanover who fought as part of the British army at the Battle of Waterloo. These German troops played a key role in the Allied coalition against Napoleon in June 1815.
The monument pays tribute to the fallen Hanoverians, reflecting the involvement of foreign contingents in this decisive battle which marked the end of of the Napoleonic era.
