The Monument of the Wounded Eagle

  • The French Monument, known as the Wounded Eagle, pays tribute to the last soldiers of Napoleon’s Great Army who fought to the bitter end at the Battle of Waterloo. It was here that the Last Square of the Imperial Guard stood up to the Allied forces, heroically resisting to the very end to protect the Emperor and delay the inevitable rout.

A symbol of bravery and sacrifice, this monument represents a wounded eagle, recalling Napoleon’s emblem and the tragic end of his epic.
