Napoleon’s Last HQ

A Museum for Everyone : Just 4 km from the Lion’s Mound

  • On the night before the battle, Napoleon took refuge in this former farmhouse which would become his final command post.
It is now a museum offering a rich insight into civilian and military life.

Highlights include numerous artefacts from the French army, a replica of Napoleon’s field bed, watercolours showing camp life and outdoor areas featuring the orchard and courtyard.

The museum’s scenography has been specially designed and created to welcome a maximum number of visitors: solo visitors, international visitors, children and their families, PRMs, the visually impaired, the deaf and hearing-impaired.

Walking and cycling routes through Genappe’s countryside nearby. Outdoor picnic tables available.

June 17, 1815. It’s almost nighttime, and the rain is falling. Napoleon’s troops are exhausted. They sense the presence of enemy forces. The Emperor orders a halt, and his aides-de-camp spot an unoccupied house. It is the Ferme du Caillou. It will to become Napoleon’s last headquarters.
